  • You want to keep fewer special-order parts in your inventory plan.

I know that sounds like a balanced answer. But honestly, "it depends" is the only responsible answer. The best thing you can do is run a side-by-side test in your own shop. Same material. Same machine. Same coolant pressure. Track cycle time, tool life, and cost per hole. The data from that test is worth more than any product brochure.

One Last Note on My Data

I've only worked in mid-size shops running steel, cast iron, and stainless. I can't speak to aerospace-grade nickel or other exotic alloys. My experience is based on maybe 40 orders and a handful of on-machine comparisons. That's a useful sample, but it's not universal.
